So ...  On the Waterfront in Bremerton (Downtown Bremerton) it is lovely.   There is art on the corners, a bunch of self owned businesses .... restaurants ...  and things to do.  There are several museums, some free...   and there is lots to see.

Here on the Boardwalk there is access to the USS TURNER JOY and this is also where you can catch the Ferry to Seattle (which is what we were doing this day) or the Food Ferry across the water to Port Orchard.

There are also dancing fountains and monuments ...

This monument that the boys are all standing by here on the Bremerton Boardwalk is located between the USS Turner Joy (which you can see the crows nest of the ship sticking up on the right side of Calahan's head (Calahan's left) ... and the Ferry Terminal which would be located behind me (I'm talking the photo) .....

"The Proud Tradition" by Larry Anderson, 1991

This monument was installed in 1991 on the Bremerton Boardwalk to commemorate the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard's centennial.  It looks as if the shipyard worker with the name of "Clark" labeling his hardhat is handing the young lad what appears to be a Kitty Hawk model of the classic aircraft carrier.

Then there is what we call the "dancing fountains" on the Boardwalk.  The water arches up to the block above or below it.  They will play "leapfrog" and it's really fun to watch ....

While I was looking for some information on the sculpture ... I came across a Yelp review of the Boardwalk saying nasty things about Bremerton, basically calling it the stain in the area, and how they don't feel safe in Bremerton and it's the worst area in the surrounding areas.   But it's funny - because this person was saying how they grew up in the area and how he'd never be caught with his children or grandchildren down on the water.

We've lived here since 2010 (remember I'm writing this in 2018) ...  and minus a few things (like the couple murders that happened around the collage and high school ... a few bad fires, etc and so on ... we've never had an issue here, especially feeling safe.  Because let's face it, you can't count on ANYWHERE being safe anymore.  And yes, there are more homeless and probably drug addicts that are on this side of town then the other end ... but my Mom lives on the other end of town and they have a major homeless issue at the start of their dead end street.  Downtown is very pretty, and the Boardwalk is really clean and nice ...  I may not have lived here long enough to be called a "local" but I don't plan on leaving either.  And I have been down on the Boardwalk late at night (after midnight) playing Pokemon Go, along with a whole lot of other people playing also.

One person sets the seeds of fear that can carry on....
